Caption: | Libya: Ghadames, a Tuareg town, population about 7000, lies approximately500 miles south-west of Tripoli. It dates back probably to about 3000 BC, thriving in Roman, Byzantine and Arab times. The houses in the old town are all of baked mud, and many of the alleys are enclosed with vaulting as protection from the sun. A UNESCO World Heritage Site.View over the flat-roofed mud houses towards the adjacent date palms. |
