PMR665-09 Jordan, Jerash: already settled in Neolithic times, Jerash was later occupied by Greeks and Romans, and the latter are responsible for most of the surviving architecture which dates from 64 BC. By the first/second century AD the town had a population of about 15-20,000 inhabitants and was known as "Gerasa". This picture: remains of the monumental Propylaeum and stone stairway up to the Temple of Artemis, built 150-170 AD, and the most important temple in the city.
