Caption: | Turkey, Lycia, Kalkan: a well-preserved section of a Roman aqueducton a hill crest above the Bay of Firnaz, south of Yesiliköy, 230 metres long, 3 metres wide, and 9 metres high, which carried water under pressure in a 33cm. bore stone pipeline for 35 kilometres to Patara from a spring near (today's) Islamlar. Here: view along the aqueduct, closely encompassed by shrubs and trees. |
