Most of the walls and substantial parts of the inner constructions have been preserved. The octagonal Cathedral of St. Domnius was built as his mausoleum by Diocletian, but turned into a catholic cathedral in the 7th century. It is 24 metres high and the walls are 2.75 metres thick. The Romanesque-Gothic belltower was added in the 13th century, but had to be rebuilt between 1890-1906 due to erosion.
