In about 1000 AD the civilisation was virtually wiped out by continuing drought, the remnants being incorporated into the Inca empire around 1450 AD. These people had no written language and their name is unknown. The famous Puerta del Sol or Sun Gate, carved from a single block of Andesite, 2 metres high and 4 metres wide, cracked by lightning and held together with metal clamps.
