Caption: | Romania, Moldavia, Iasi (pronounced "Yash"): the capital of Moldavia andof Romania from 1859-62, and third largest city of Romania, is a rich cultural centre.Church of the Three Hierarchs, built in 1635-9 by Vasile Lupu, has been destroyed several times but always faithfully rebuilt, surviving the rest of the monastery. Detail of the intricate geometric ornamentation, mainly of oriental origin, which covers all the facades. This was gilded in the original church. |
