PMR000-04 Morocco, Marakech: (1962 picture, before restoration) the minaret of the Koutoubia Mosque, 77 metres high, is the largest and best known in the city. Built of local sandstone in the reign of Berber Almohad Caliph Yaqub al-Mansur (1184-1199), it replaced an identical mosque on an adjacent site, little of which remains.
