Caption: | Argentina, Los Glaciares National Park: the Perito Moreno Glacier whichcovers an area of 250 sq.km. and is 30 km. long. The thickness of the ice is about 170 metres, of which approximately 74 metres is visible above the waters of Lago Argentino. Unlike most glaciers, Perito Moreno is not losing mass. When this gap is dammed by the advance of the glacier, the water level on the left can be raised up to 30 metres before a burst-through occurs (once in 1/2 years). |
