PMR117K-21 Jordan, Jerash: already settled in Neolithic times, Jerash was later occupied by Greeks and Romans, and the latter are responsible for most of the surviving architecture which dates from 64 BC. By the first/second century AD the town had a population of about 15-20,000 inhabitants and was known as "Gerasa". This picture: The Triumphal Arch, erected to mark the visit of Emperor Hadrian in 129 AD, is under constant restoration.
